Last week, the Fort Thomas Police Department announced the arrival of its new K9 officer, Bulleit.

Certified in detecting illegal drugs, Bulleit can also assist in tracking if needed. He will work with Officer TJ French, who joined the force in February 2022. This is French’s first time with a police dog. He and Bulleit attended six weeks of training at Shallow Creek Kennels.

Bulleit is just under one and one-half years old. He’s a German short-hair pointer, born in Hungary, according to Nancy Haverkamp, one of the founders of the Matt Haverkamp Foundation. The organization provided funding for the dog’s purchase and training.

Established in 2005, the foundation honors the memory of Matt Haverkamp, a K9 officer for the Golf Manor, Ohio police department. Since its inception, the foundation has raised over $1 million to fund 105 K9 officers for departments all over the Greater Cincinnati area.
