As a fifth-generation Kentucky farmer, Jonathan Shell proclaims firsthand knowledge of challenges the agriculture industry faces. And now he has an opportunity to put that insight into practice as Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner.
Shell, the Republican candidate for the office, has been projected by the Associated Press as the victor over Democratic opponent Sierra Enlow.
With 77% of the vote counted, Shell garnered 58.5% (645,025) while Enlow received 41.5% (458,120) of the vote.
Shell will receive a four-year term.
The agriculture commissioner should serve as a supporter and defender of the state’s farmers and rural communities, address excessive federal regulation and work productively with state lawmakers to advance Kentucky agriculture, Shell said during the campaign.
