Considering what it will offer, Florence Fire Chief Rodney Wren said he believes the city of Florence’s forthcoming fire station is a jewel in the making.

“I see this fire station as tremendous increase in the services that we can provide to our residents and the future shining star of Dream Street,” Wren said.

Wren joined a host of city officials and Florence Fire Department personnel for a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday at 8101 Dream St., which will be the home of Fire Station #4.

“As we break ground on this new firehouse, we are taking a significant step toward the safety and security of our community,” Florence Mayor Julie Aubuchon said. “This new firehouse is going to provide some state-of-the-art facilities in order to accomplish those goals of keeping our public safe.”

Possessing an $11 million budget, the 21,157 square-foot facility will offer features that include offices, training spaces, living quarters and dorms for 26 firefighters. A kitchen, dayroom, patio, fitness room, laundry facilities, and an onsite training tower, project manager Tom Gagnon said.

The project will also include three bay doors in the front and back of the site to house the fire trucks, with an estimated project completion timeframe of Fall 2024, Gagnon said.

“This day has been a long time in the making,” Wren said. “We’re all very excited about this project. The City of Florence keeps growing and expanding, and we’d like to keep up with it. We want to thank everyone involved with this project.”
