As many as eight additional staff members may be needed to meet the rising demand for food services at Campbell County Schools.

Superintendent Shelli Wilson reported to the board of education during a meeting on Aug. 21 that additional personnel are needed to meet the increase in meals served, according to calculations from the United States Department of Agriculture, which funds child nutrition programs at public schools.

Wilson said the department’s data indicates two additional people are needed at Campbell Middle School, Campbell Ridge Elementary School, Crossroads Elementary School, and one additional person is needed at both Grants Lick Elementary and Riley Elementary.

The board voted unanimously to move forward with filling the needed positions, which Wilson said would be done in two phases.

She said the first phase will include adding one additional staff member to the schools in need, and the second phase will be used for collecting data to determine if a second staff member is needed in the nutrition department one year later.

If the growth is maintained, a second staff member will be hired at the schools that need one, Wilson said.
