Two city safety and emergency workers announced their retirements at the Crestview Hills July city council meeting.

One of the retirees, fire Chief Adam Fuller attended the meeting, thanking the council for support during his tenure.

“This is my last council meeting. I may get emotional,” Fuller said.

Beginning his career at Fort Mitchell in 1993 as a volunteer firefighter, Fuller worked up the ranks to chief over the years. Fort Mitchell fire department serves Fort Mitchell, Lakeside Park, Crestview Hills, and surrounding areas.

Fuller mentioned his friend, council member William Dorsey, when speaking about one of his proudest career accomplishments.

“On my third day as fire chief, we covered a fire that made the national news,” Fuller said. “I remember after the fire, and I remember Mr. Dorsey had this crazy idea that we were going to expand our staffing and we were going to create a program to hopefully post jobs and hire from within our personnel.”

Fuller said he and the safety committee created this program, hiring interns and training them as firefighters.

“About 40 to 50% of our interns are working somewhere in the fire service in Northern Kentucky; that’s a pretty cool accomplishment,” the fire chief said. “We have an internal hiring list within our walls. It’s pretty cool to look back to that. Five years ago, we were hoping to be at that point,” Fuller said, looking at Dorsey. “It’s pretty cool looking back at and now we’ve reached our goal.”

Crestview Mayor Paul Meier led the congratulations from the council members.

“Good luck with your next endeavor, we really appreciate your service,” Meier said.

Fire Chief Tom Dickman announced Captain Mark Artmeier will service his final shift on July 30. He has served more than 25 years with the Edgewood fire department.

“Mark was an instructor for us and the county fire recruitment classes and has been a great mentor to the recruitment students,” Dickman said.
