Kentucky is temporarily easing restrictions on commercial truck drivers assisting with storm recovery and delivering critical supplies.
As part of Team Kentucky’s emergency preparedness efforts, Transportation Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Goodman has signed an official order to temporarily suspend certain restrictions on motor carriers that will be engaged in providing utility restoration and delivering critical supplies and transportation services to areas affected by recent severe storms and damaging winds.
“Swift response is key,” Goodman said. “This order will save valuable time and ensure Kentuckians and surrounding states can get the help they need as quickly as possible.”
The order is effective for 14 days or until the state of emergency no longer exists. It temporarily relieves maximum driving times and weigh station stops for commercial drivers transporting approved relief supplies, crops, agricultural products or those involved in debris removal, and the restoration of utilities and transportation services.
Carriers must comply with safety requirements and have a copy of the order in the truck cab if operating under the authority of the official order.
