Eddie Fessler, the Highland Heights council member arrested on drug charges in late February, has officially sent his resignation letter to the city where he will no longer serve on city council. This comes after nearly two months of Fessler’s seat being vacant.

Fessler’s resignation was announced Tuesday night at the city council meeting, which would ultimately leave his seat open for a new council member to fill. The remaining council members will decide who will replace Fessler.

City Administrator Michael Giffen is urging those interested in applying to fill the vacant seat to deliver a letter of intent to join the council in a sealed envelope by Friday, April 28 at noon.

Mayor Greg Meyers says he is looking for a vision from applicants looking to fill the seat.

“We’re hoping that when they send in a little bit of a resume, they can give us a little bit of their vision and what direction they think they want the council going, along with how they want to make the city of Highland Heights a better place to live, work and play,” Meyers said.

After Giffen shares the names of those interested in serving on the council, the council will then vote at the next scheduled city council meeting on May 4. The councilmember that is elected will get sworn in the next day following the city council meeting.
