The Life Learning Center, a wrap-around non-profit organization in Covington, will host an art exhibit on March 4 aimed at raising awareness about the toll opioid overdose has taken on the Northern Kentucky region.
Called the Black Balloon Project, the exhibit will feature a gallery of photographs illustrating the pain and grief of people who have lost loved ones to opioid overdose. The exhibit will also aim to destigmatize those who suffer from substance abuse.
The event also feature a speech from Gabi Deaton, prevention specialist at HEALing Communities Study and one of the photographers who contributed to the exhibit.
“The Black Balloon Project sheds a harsh light on the reality of addiction within our community,” said Deaton in a press release from Life Learning Center. “Each person in these photos – they matter, their lives matter and their stories need to be told. However, sometimes the world doesn’t listen, until you scream. This is us screaming.”
A variety of partner agencies, resources related to substance abuse and activities to raise money for treatment programs will also be available at the event. To learn more, visit the event’s Facebook page.
