This story was updated at 12:30 p.m. to include information from the Walton Verona Superintendent.

Walton-Verona Independent School District placed the high school on a brief lockdown Monday morning while law enforcement responded to an individual experiencing a mental health crisis.

Walton-Verona Superintendent Matt Baker confirmed the nature of the police call with LINK nky. Boone County Sheriff’s Office has not shared further details.

The school district offered live updates via social media. Starting at 10 a.m. Monday, Walton Verona shared on Facebook, “Due to a situation on Old Stephenson Mill Road, our Walton (high school) Campus is currently sheltering in place. All students are safe.”

Another update online let parents know that the high school was not allowing students to exit the building, including students who have off-campus coursework for work experience and dual-credit courses. The district also canceled afternoon preschool, though it was unclear based on the update whether that was due to the shelter-in-place status.

By approximately 10:45 a.m., law enforcement gave the district the all-clear.

Anyone experiencing a mental health crisis can call the National Suicide Hotline by dialing 988.
