Florence City Council voted to close a portion of alleyway on the northwest side of Main Street at their regular meeting Tuesday so the businesses off of it can have more space for things like parking.

Josh Hunt, director of business and community development, said the area is an older neighborhood and that the alleyway is no longer useful as it once was.

Making headway on future Roy Rogers site

Council held the first reading of an ordinance annexing a 2.391 acre site at the corner of Industrial Road and Highway 25.

The Holland Dixie Development, LLC, will be building a Roy Rogers restaurant on the property located across the street from Skyline Chili, which the company also owns.

In addition to the Roy Rogers restaurant, there will also be a Dunkin Donuts/ gas station type of building next to the restaurant.

Work should begin this summer, but a completion date is not set because of the delays in obtaining construction supplies. The gas station company has not been announced.

“I can’t wait to get a double R bar burger!” said Councilmember Mel Carroll.

Once the second reading is held, the project will not have to come back to council for any kind of approval because the area is already zoned correctly for the project.

RESOLUTION

Council also passed a resolution authorizing the city of Florence to use the standard allowance for the Local Fiscal Recovery fund, as instructed by the American Rescue Plan Act.
