The Powerball jackpot is now the highest it has ever been. What are the odds that a Kentuckian will win?
The prize is now an estimated $1.6 billion with a cash option amount of $782.4 million.
Saturday’s drawing will break the previous world record of a $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot in 2016 which was shared by winners in California, Florida and Tennessee.
“We are due for a jackpot winner here in Kentucky and would love to be a part of this historic record,” Kentucky Lottery president and CEO Mary Harville said in a news release. “We’re used to making millionaires but are excited for the opportunity to make a billionaire.”
Powerball tickets, which are sold in 45 states as well as D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, are $2 each online or at any lottery retailer.
To play, you pick five numbers from 1 to 69 and a Powerball number from 1 to 26. Per the Powerball website, the odds of winning a prize are 1 in 24.9, and your odds of winning a jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
Drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
