On the heels of the best six-year period for announced private-sector investment and job creation in state history, Kentucky continues to see growth across multiple key industries, fueling economic momentum and providing quality job opportunities in communities across the commonwealth. Among the state’s largest sectors, like manufacturing, automotive and distribution and logistics, is the growing aerospace market, which is quite literally helping Kentucky’s economy reach new heights.

“The economic momentum we have experienced over these six years is a result of almost all of Kentucky’s biggest, most critical industries seeing growth through expansion and further investment in our communities,” said Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear. “Our aerospace industry is booming because of our diverse, skilled workforce, resources and unique location that allows this sector, and all of our industries, the chance to thrive and be successful. I am excited to see the future investment, projects and job opportunities that come from its continued growth.”

The commonwealth’s aerospace industry has made its largest impact in Kentucky’s growing role in international trade. In February, Gov. Beshear announced Kentucky once again set an all-time record for products shipped globally, with $50.6 billion in exports in 2025, a 5.65% increase over 2024. This record-setting year for exports was largely supported by the aerospace industry, with aerospace products and parts remaining Kentucky’s top export in 2025, accounting for nearly $23 billion in products shipped out of the United States, representing a nearly 22.2% increase over the previous year.

Currently, there are more than 500 aerospace-related facilities throughout the state employing over 46,000 Kentuckians, and since 2020, there have been 53 aerospace-related N&E projects in Kentucky, representing over $738 million in investment and over 2,000 new jobs.

Kentucky’s recent aerospace growth includes investments, expansions and new projects from a variety of new and existing companies throughout the commonwealth. In May 2025, Aerospace Composites Solutions celebrated the grand opening of production facility in Butler County, a $16.8 million project creating 72 quality jobs. The company, a leading provider of comprehensive, advanced composites manufacturing services for the aerospace industry, will use the site as its primary hub for production, innovation and workforce development.

A few months later in July, Nitto, a global pioneer of state-of-the-art technology and manufacturer of high-performance materials, cut the ribbon on its new production facility in Frankfort, a project creating 220 Kentucky jobs. Nitto is a leader in a wide range of markets, providing products and services such as industrial tapes, optronics and human life solutions to a variety of industries, including electronics and aerospace.

In December 2024, L2 Aviation announced its first Kentucky location with a new facility in Boone County, a $12.2 million investment creating 250 jobs. L2 Aviation is a comprehensive avionics design, consulting, manufacturing and engineering company, supporting a wide range of aviation modification and certification projects globally. The company also develops FAA Supplemental Type Certificates for commercial aviation, avionics original equipment manufacturers, business aviation, air cargo and military applications.

Space Tango Launches Kentucky’s Aerospace Industry into History

In April, NASA’s Artemis II mission completed a historic 10-day journey around the moon, marking the first crewed lunar flyby in over 50 years and setting a new human spaceflight record for distance traveled from Earth, reaching 252,756 miles.

The record-setting mission included the work of one of Kentucky’s own aerospace companies. Lexington-based Space Tango, which designs and operates automated systems for research and manufacturing in microgravity, designed and developed the autonomous science bay and supporting payload structures that enabled the AVATAR (A Virtual Astronaut Tissue Analog Response) investigation to operate safely and reliably in deep space.

Throughout the mission, the compact science bay housed four organ chips containing live biological samples from crew members, maintaining precise environmental and fluidic conditions throughout the journey. The science bay was secured within the dedicated payload structure, which provided power, safety systems and a crew interface for real-time status checks, ensuring continuous operation in the Orion capsule.

Space Tango’s work on the historic mission further highlights the talented, skilled workforce and opportunities within the commonwealth’s aerospace sector.

Kentucky’s Resources Position its Aerospace Industry for Future Success

Kentucky’s central geographic location makes it perfect for manufacturing and distribution of aerospace products throughout the United States and around the globe. It also places Kentucky manufacturers within 600 miles – or 1,000 kilometers – of two-thirds of the U.S. population. That centrality enables manufacturers to quickly distribute their products to key markets, while global air cargo hubs operated by UPS, DHL and Amazon provide fast and reliable distribution overnight to anywhere in the world. Industrial employers also benefit from various reliable, air, road, waterway and rail shipping options.

This advantageous location and pool of resources directly contribute to Kentucky’s thriving logistics and distribution industries, which announced 27 new-location and expansion projects in 2025 totaling $600 million in new investments and the creation of 1,400 full-time positions.

As well, manufacturing continues to be a driving force behind Kentucky’s economic growth, contributing to over 7,500 of the announced jobs in 2025 with $9.3 billion in new investments. Kentucky is home to approximately 6,000 manufacturing facilities that employ around 250,000 residents.

Aiding the state’s recent growth and sustained economic momentum has been the continued investment in site development initiatives. The commonwealth has taken an aggressive approach to the speed-to-market demand, matching companies’ sense of urgency and expediting project timelines in a way many other states cannot.

These initiatives include Kentucky’s Build-Ready program and the Kentucky Product Development Initiative (KPDI), which allow companies to quickly locate in the commonwealth while mitigating risks and delays associated with the construction process.

With record-breaking economic momentum, continued investment in some of the state’s most important and fastest-growing industries and continued focus on speed-to-market initiatives, Kentucky continues to build a foundation for key industries like aerospace to thrive.
