The Brickery Cafe & Play, a Lego-themed cafe at Newport on the Levee, announced its permanent closure.
In a post to the business’s Facebook account, The Brickery leadership cited the months-long closure of the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge as a contributing factor in the decision.
“We put our whole heart into this thing, and we will be forever grateful to those of you who made it a joy to come to work,” read the post. “We truly enjoyed building with you.”
The Brickey Café & Play was founded by Cincinnati native Daniel Johnson — a certified facilitator of the Lego Serious Play method. The method is described as a facilitated thinking, communication and problem-solving technique for use with organizations, teams and individuals.
In 2023, Johnson signed a lease with North American Properties for a 3,100-square-foot space next to Velocity Esports. The Brickery offered children from ages 5 to 12 the opportunity to play with Lego sets from a variety of different franchises such as Star Wars, Harry Potter and Super Mario.
Additionally, The Brickery was outfitted with a private event space, which was used for events like birthday parties and company meetings.
The Brickery is one of a few businesses at Newport on the Levee that have announced closures over the past six months. In November, 16 Lots Brewing announced its permanent closure. Almost two months later, Amador Cuban announced its closure.
