The City of Fort Wright issued a ‘community safety reminder’ after its police department noticed an uptick in vehicle break-ins as a result of unlocked vehicles.

The Fort Wright Police Department reports that incidents tend to rise during the warmer months. To address this, officers will increase patrols in areas experiencing the most reported break-ins.

Residents are encouraged to take several simple steps to reduce their risk:

  • Keep vehicles locked at all times.
  • Remove valuables from plain view.
  • Never leave keys or spare keys inside a vehicle.

Police are also promoting the nationwide #9PMRoutine campaign, which includes removing valuables such as purses, electronics, firearms, and spare keys from vehicles; locking and double-checking vehicle, home, and garage doors and windows; and turning on porch lights, activating security cameras, and setting alarm systems.

Officials are urging anyone who observes suspicious activity to contact the Fort Wright Police Department immediately by calling 911.
