Too often our Tri-State area is associated with our wildly
successful professional football and baseball teams (there’s always next year,
right?), our clean waterways (was that actually a fish… no no, just a boot), or
our award-winning culinary creations (Applebee’s or O’Charley’s for dinner?). What we overlook amidst all the
accolades is our unique culture, evidenced by the World Choir Games over the
summer, the beautiful Aronoff center, historic Music Hall, and myriad musical
and performing arts organizations citywide. One such gem is the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestras.
The Cincinnati Pops’ is having a family-friendly concert
series called “Lollipops Family Concerts” in February and April. The concerts are interactive and follow
a creative theme designed specifically for children age three to ten (and their
families), per the website. The
concerts are held at Music Hall in downtown.
The first performance is a “Symphony in Space” and is held
on February 2 at 10:30 am. The Pops’,
conducted by John Morris Russell (JMR), promises the viewer to “blast off for
the best musical ride” of their life.
This concert includes music from Holst’s “The Planets” and Mozart’s
“Jupiter” symphony. Additionally,
it includes imagery from NASA.
The April 20 concert, also at 10:30 am, is entitled “Waiting
for Wings” and is Spring-themed.
The show focuses on winged spring friends and the flowers they fly
to. The concerts cost $12 for
adults and $7 for children.
However, if you call the box office (513-381-3300) and purchase tickets
for both concerts, the price is discounted by $2 per ticket.
