Elsmere recognizes Joe Pannunzio for 18 years of service

Elsmere Mayor Marty Lenhof and City Council recognized Joe Pannunzio for 18 years of volunteer service to the city, presenting him with a mayoral proclamation and key to the city Tuesday. Pannunzio began serving on the Elsmere Board of Adjustments in 2007, reviewing zoning appeals, and represented the city on the Kenton County Planning Commission from 2012 to 2025. Lenhof praised Pannunzio for his dedication, professionalism and willingness to volunteer his time to serve the community. Pannunzio has lived in Elsmere since 1986, when he moved to the city with his wife and three children.

Fort Mitchell passes additional e-bike regulations

Fort Mitchell City Council approved stricter regulations for e-bikes and e-scooters Monday, including a new “Walk your Wheels” requirement along Beechwood Road during school hours. The ordinance requires riders to walk their electric bikes and scooters on sidewalks in the designated area to improve pedestrian safety. Mayor Greg Pohlgeers said he plans to expand the restrictions to other high-traffic areas throughout the city. The changes build on regulations adopted earlier this year requiring helmets, lights, noisemakers and a 15 mph speed limit on sidewalks. Pohlgeers also urged parents to talk with their children about responsible riding, yielding to pedestrians and following safety rules.

What will the future of bike infrastructure in Covington look like?

Covington city commissioners heard proposals this week from two cycling nonprofits aimed at expanding bike trails and infrastructure throughout the city. The Cincinnati Off-Road Alliance, also known as CORA, presented plans for its OneNKY Connector, part of a 934-mile regional trail network, which would connect Covington neighborhoods, parks, businesses and public facilities through designated routes and wayfinding stations. CORA requested a licensing agreement to install signage, maps, bike racks and repair stations along the routes. Meanwhile, Tri-State Trails discussed a potential feasibility study for permanent cycling infrastructure, including routes connecting Covington and Newport across the Licking River. The study could take years and eventually require city funding. No formal action was taken on either proposal.

87-unit ‘Camelot Ridge’ subdivision plans move forward in Campbell County

A proposed 87-home subdivision in southern Campbell County advanced Oct. 13 despite opposition from residents concerned about housing density, traffic, stormwater runoff and preserving the area’s rural character. The Campbell County Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended rezoning approximately 23 acres along Alexandria Pike, just south of Campbell County High School, for the Camelot Ridge development. The commission also approved the project’s Stage I development plan, requiring a 20-foot vegetated buffer along the western and southern property boundaries to separate the development from neighboring properties. Developer Grand Communities LLC plans to build detached single-family homes ranging from 1,400 to 3,000 square feet, with construction potentially beginning in fall 2027. Planning officials said the proposal aligns with the county’s comprehensive plan, which identifies the corridor for higher-density housing. The zoning change still requires approval from the Campbell County Fiscal Court, which has not announced a date for its vote.
