Newly elected city officials in Walton were sworn into office during Tuesday evening’s city council meeting.

Mayor Terri Courtney, who has been serving as interim mayor since May after former Mayor Gabe Brown resigned from office following an investigation into his conduct in office, was formally elected into office by Walton residents. She defeated Brown 1,424 to 647 votes. She will serve the remainder of Brown’s term ending in 2026

A new council member, Caleb Flege, joins five former council members: Dan Martin, Rose Beach, Matt Brown, Sherry Gaskill and Amy Long. Flege takes the place of former councilmember Barbara Farrow, who was appointed to fill Courtney’s vacated seat on council in June when she was appointed interim mayor.

Lastly, Rebecca McClure was sworn in as the newly elected City Clerk. She has been serving as interim clerk since September, when former Clerk Gevana Hicks resigned.
