The Walton-Verona Board of Education will interview six applicants for the open board seat.Â
The board met on Thursday night to discuss the vacancy. Board members had the option of interviewing candidates or choosing someone based on their answers to a questionnaire. The board opted for interviews. They agreed to decide a date for interviews by email.Â
The vacancy comes after Stacey Thornberry resigned in July.
Per Kentucky law, the board has 60 days from the date the vacancy was posted to find a new board member, making the deadline Sept. 20. The new board member will take on the position during an election cycle, meaning they will only serve for a few months before the newly elected board members take office in January.
