The Boone County Public Safety Communications Center has been named Kentucky’s 2026 Public Safety Answering Point 911 Agency of the Year.
The award, presented by the Kentucky Emergency Number Association and the Kentucky chapter of the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials, recognizes the work of Boone County’s 911 dispatch center.
The Boone County Public Safety Communications Center’s primary responsibilities are to receive emergency calls and dispatch law enforcement, fire and emergency medical resources throughout the county.
The recognition comes after dispatchers helped coordinate a large-scale emergency response in August 2025, when two Boone County Sheriff’s Office deputies were shot in the line of duty. The incident prompted a multi-agency response involving 15 law enforcement agencies, four fire departments and two emergency management agencies from across the region, according to a news release from the county.
At the time, Boone County dispatchers coordinated resources for officers and other first responders in the field while continuing to handle other emergency calls from residents.
