Alexandria Police Chief Michael Ward announced his retirement at this week’s city council meeting.
Ward began his career in law enforcement forty years ago, when he started as a security officer in the United States Air Force in 1978.
In November of last year, he decided to retire after marking his 40th anniversary in the field.
Ward, according to a city announcement, thanked the mayor and city council for their support.
