A new riverboat cruise is set to launch from Covington.

Grand Majestic Riverboat Company announced Tuesday that it will launch Grand Majestic River Cruises, providing 7 to 21 night river cruises on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers on the new Grand Majestic riverboat. The endeavor launches on September 23.

“Our guests leave the fast pace world behind and experience life at a slower pace as the river banks of America’s countryside move by,” said Joseph Baer, the captain who founded the company with his wife, Victoria Baer, in a statement. “Our luxury service, tours and top entertainment will sweep you away to the when steamboats ruled the rivers with the grace and majesty only seen on the Mississippi Ohio River by steamboats.”

The luxuries of the new boat are similar to that of the river’s “golden age”, Baer said.

The Riverboat Grand Majestic is a 70-passenger sternwheel riverboat offering passengers a unique experience, luxury service, exciting river routes, and fully customizable itineraries for groups. Grand Majestic sails the waters of the Mississippi, Ohio, Cumberland, Tennessee, Arkansas, Illinois, Missouri Rivers and Gulf Intercoastal Waterway.

The riverboat will be christened in Covington on September 23. It will be the first river-based overnight cruise line in the area since the Delta Queen.

Capt. Baer was born in Lawrenceburg, In. and graduated from Fairfield High School, and went to the Great Lakes Maritime Academy in Traverse City, Mich. Baer began his career on the Ohio River at 11 years old in his family marina, Cast-A-Ways Yacht Club in Florence, In. and then at the age of 16 began working in Cincinnati at Queen City Riverboats and McGinnis Towing at 19.
