Cooper High School is bringing in Tyler Morgan to be the school’s next Athletic Director.
The school made the announcement on Wednesday, Morgan set to replace Randy Borchers once the new school year begins in July. Borchers announced he was resigning from head football coach in April and would not continue his Athletic Director role as well, taking a job in another school district next year.
“I am honored to accept the position of Athletic Director at Cooper High School,” Morgan said in a statement released by the Cooper Athletics account on X. “I am a Union native and bring 12 years of varsity coaching experience in football as well as experience in coaching basketball and track and field. Additionally, I have served the union community as a special-education teacher at Ryle High School since the fall of 2019.”
Morgan will enter his role with a lot of fresh faces as the school has experienced coaching changes in multiple sports. Girls basketball, girls soccer and football have all recently made coaching changes while Justin Holthaus will be entering his second year as boys basketball coach after coming over from the girls program. Lee Patsel is in his second season guiding the softball team.
“Cooper has built a strong tradition of excellence both academically and athletically, I am grateful for the opportunity to help continue that success,” Morgan said. “I look forward to working alongside our coaches, student-athletes, staff and the Union community to build programs that develop leadership, character and discipline. I am committed to creating a positive experience for all student athletes while supporting a culture of hard work, accountability, and championship-level expectations.”
The athletic program has seen its fair share of success recently. The football team was back-to-back state runner-up in 2023 and 2024, the boys basketball team won the 9th Region title and was a quarterfinalist in 2025, the girls basketball team won four straight 9th Region titles from 2022-2025, the girls lacrosse team recently won a district title and is one of the final eight teams remaining and the boys track and field team just recently won a region title to name a few.
