The Welcome House will eventually have new offices to occupy along Martin Luther King Boulevard in Covington.
The non-profit organization that works with homeless individuals and families revealed their plans while seeking approval from the city’s board of adjustments last week.
A new building, designed by Covington-based Hub + Weber Architects, will replace the current structure at 210-212 East 12th Street/MLK. Welcome House executive director Linda Young indicated in the organization’s application that the new offices would be built within the next couple years.Â
“At any given time this will be development offices, finance offices, a board room, conference rooms, and volunteer space,” Young told the board. The Welcome House’s main offices are directly adjacent to the north of the building, on Greenup Street.Â
Because most of the buildings on the block are residential, a conditional use permit was sought to allow the offices to be created. The board offered unanimous support.
The long vacant structure currently on the site will be razed. The new design embraces the Victorian-style commonly found in the Eastside neighborhood.
The Welcome House will soon embark on a large-scale, multi-million dollar renovation project of more than a dozen residential buildings in Mainstrasse Village in partnership with the Cincinnati-based Model Group. The buildings will accommodate low-income tenants.
