Our
friend, Amanda Van Benschoten, at nky.com
covered the story of the developments at the Newport Pavilion.  The dirt continues to move to prepare for the
final incoming tenants.  The tenants who
will finalize the pavilion include Michael’s, PetSmart, AT&T, Chipotle, Chik-fil-A,
and other restaurants; they want to be in and operating by Thanksgiving of this
year.

After
facing initial financial problems the Newport Pavilion is finally entering its
second and final phase of development.  The
final phase not only includes filling the remaining retail space, but also the
plan to revamp Carothers Road later in the year.  Rumor has it; they want to raise the road up
to alleviate driving problems at the intersection of Carothers Road and Pavilion
Parkway.

The
incoming tenants represent a more retail oriented lot, while the initial plan
was to have a Home Depot move in.  Home Depot was hamstrung in their development, and they’re currently
not building any more stores.

It
sounds like a grand endeavor to have all of the retail space built and
operating in eight months, but hopefully the summer weather will streamline the
production.

I am
happy to see a bit of diversity move into the pavilion with Michael’s and
Chik-fil-A, but PetSmart, AT&T and Chipotle seem redundant.  There is a pet store down the lane from Remke
already, and directly down 471 exists a Chipotle and AT&T.  Don’t get me wrong, I happy to see profitable
stores taking advantage of the space, but it seems more of what the area
already has.  With that said, and on a
slightly hypocritical / selfish note, I am keeping my fingers crossed for a
BW-3.  What can I say, I like my wings!
