The man convicted of the 1987 murder of 36-year old Deborah Pooley of Covington says he cannot be executed because he was mentally ill at the time. Gregory Wilson’s death penalty case now comes back to Kenton County where his attorneys will try to prove he was insance twenty-five years ago when he killed Pooley:

Kenton Commonwealth’s Attorney Rob Sanders said it is hard to say how long it will be before Wilson is in court again and how long before the question of his mental status is settled.

“There’s so many variables involved,” Sanders said.

Wilson’s attorney, public defender Dan Goyette, said a status conference and other hearings will likely be set sometime early in 2013.
