See below from the Week 2 that was.

Each week, we’ll provide the standouts from Friday night. The top passers, rushers, receivers, defensive and kicking standouts.

We’ll also look at 10 things to take away from the week.

Here goes…

10 takeaways from Week 2

— Dayton’s Malachi Kennedy reported final stat line in the 62-49 win over Pendleton County: 393 rushing yards, seven rushing touchdowns, 67 receiving yards, receiving touchdown. Unreal.

— Ryle’s Jacob Savage is now the program’s all-time leader in tackles. He has 409 for his high school career, passing 2011 grad Court Mace’s 408 tackles. With eight regular season games and an expected lengthy postseason run, Savage should clear 500 for his career.

— Beechwood’s Tyler Fryman was clocked at over 21 miles per hour on his 73-yard touchdown reception. Highly doubt you’ll find a faster player on the football field in Northern Kentucky. Fryman finished his 2025 debut with 116 receiving yards, 45 rushing yards and a punt return for a touchdown. He also had five tackles, one of them for loss on defense with a interception returned 43 yards.

— Bishop Brossart’s defense nearly went 96 minutes without allowing a touchdown. They had defending 1A champ Sayre on the ropes with a 5-0 lead, but the Spartans scored in the final minute to win the game. The Mustangs didn’t allow Walton-Verona to score an offensive touchdown the prior week, the Bearcats lone score coming on an interception return.

— Holmes may have lost 42-18 for their 24th straight loss, but the signs of improvement are already showing with the 18-point output. It was their most points scored in a game since Oct. 27, 2022, a span of 22 games. The past two seasons they scored 42 points total.

— Whatever Campbell County is doing with their kickoff return team is working wonders. They returned another kickoff for a touchdown in Saturday’s 21-19 victory over Southwestern, helping them get off to their first 2-0 start since 2007. They’ve now returned four kickoffs for touchdowns in the first two games.

— The early most improved team candidates are Boone County, Campbell County and Holy Cross. All three are off to 2-0 starts. The Rebels went 2-8 in 2024, the Camels were 2-9 and the Indians were 3-8.

— The 2024 state’s leading receiver is back! Simon Kenton’s Grayson Harris caught eight passes for 237 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Western Brown (Ohio). Last year he led the state with 124 receiving yards per game.

— Pretty rousing debut for Beechwood’s Emmett Queen. He completed all 10 of his passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns.

— The statewide media poll for each class will be back this week. Curious to see where some NKY teams land in their respective class.
