Ryle 39, Pleasure Ridge Park 0

Ryle earns their fifth straight running clock victory as they take care of the visitors from Louisville.

The Raiders victory sets up a top five showdown with St. Xavier in the second round. Ryle (9-2) is ranked No. 5 in 6A, St. Xavier (7-4) is No. 4. The Tigers defeated the Raiders, 31-24 on Oct. 4 in Louisville.

Class 5A

Scott County 47, Conner 40

The Cougars recovered an onside kick with under two minutes to play and trailing 47-40, but a late interception ended the Cougars hopes of an upset in Georgetown.

Conner trailed 27-25 after three, but Scott County scored two touchdowns in less than four minutes to make it 40-25 with 8:02 to play. The Cougars closed to within 40-32 and 47-40 after a long Wyatt Hatfield pass to Camryn Correll with 1:40 to play.

Conner finishes out their season at 7-4. Scott County moves on to play Cooper in Union next week.

Woodford County 49, Dixie Heights 14

The Colonels led 7-0 after one on an Armani Gregg touchdown run, but a momentum shifting redzone stop by the Yellow Jackets in the second quarter propeled Woodford.

Tied at seven a few minutes in the second, the Yellow Jackets earned a stop at their own four, scoring a few plays later on a 78-yard touchdown pass. It spurred a 42 unanswered points run for Woodford, taking a 42-7 lead with 2:07 left in the third to get the game to a running clock.

The loss ends Dixie’s season at 3-8, Woodford County advances to host Highlands next week.

Class 4A

Covington Catholic 42, Boyd County 14

Dylan Gaiser ran for 245 yards and four touchdowns as the Colonels shot out to a 35-0 lead over Boyd County (5-6) less than halfway through the second quarter.

CovCath (9-2) totaled 304 yards in the rushing game as Gaiser and Cash Harney became the first running back pair in program history to clear 1,000 yards in a season individually. Harney added 81 yards and a touchdown pass through the air, Oliver Link his main target with three receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Andrew Bessler intercepted two passes, Gaiser adding one. Bessler and Tucker Evans collected sacks as CovCath gave up just 28 yards on the ground.

The Colonels have won nine in a row and will face Johnson Central in the second round in Park Hills. It’s a rematch of last year’s second round contest, a 31-0 Colonels victory.

Class 3A

Lloyd Memorial 42, Bath County 14

Tyler Copeland scored three touchdowns in a variety of ways as the Juggernauts took a 42-7 lead into halftime.

The Juggernauts (9-2) senior ran for a touchdown, returned a punt for a touchdown and added an interception for a score as Lloyd advances to the Class 3A second round.

Kaleb Evans threw for 136 yards and a touchdown and ran for a score, Yurii Collins also adding a rushing touchdown.

Lloyd will now shift their focus to Russell, a road matchup in Flatwoods .

Class 2A

Ludlow 55, Dayton 9

The Panthers now get a chance to exact revenge on Newport in the second round. Ludlow lost to Newport, 32-30 back on Sept. 20.

Newport stopped the Panthers on a two-point try in the closing seconds of the game. The game will be on Ludlow’s red turf once again due to district seeding.

Newport 35, Holy Cross 0

The Wildcats earned a second straight shutout of the Indians on back-to-back weeks.

Class 1A

Newport Central Catholic 49, Trimble County 0

Five of the 12 offensive plays for the Thoroughbreds (8-3) went for touchdowns in their playoff opening win over Trimble (0-11) on Thursday night at Covington Catholic.

They also returned two interceptions for touchdowns in advancing to the second round against the Bellevue-Bishop Brossart winner.

In the victory, Kaleb Cole had two touchdowns on two rushes for 65 yards. Eddie Bivens also had a touchdown run. Emmanuel Miles completed both of his pass attempts for 58 yards and a touchdown, the touchdown toss going to Louie Collopy from 33 yards out. Chris Meyer also threw a touchdown pass to Dominic Enzweiler.

Cole and Meyer returned interceptions for touchdowns.

The Thoroughbreds will host the Mustangs or Tigers in the second round next week at a site to be announced.
