After Laura Hall announced she’s retiring from coaching last month, Dayton is hiring Jeff Wood Jr. as the next head coach of the girls basketball program.

Wood previously served as the girls basketball coach at Aiken in Cincinnati. He’s a 2016 graduate of Lockland High School in Cincinnati. He went on to play at the University of Pittsburgh-Titusville. He’s still furthering his education at Xavier. He’s the owner of Jeff Wood Companies Moving and Hauling and a Non-Profit founder of Leaders of Tomorrow Youth Basketball.

“I’m thrilled for the opportunity to leads the women’s program at Dayton High School,” Wood said. “The facilities are top-notch, the support system is incredible and the resources here are unmatched. This is a chance to help build a winning culture and change the history of this program.”

He replaces Laura Hall, who coached the team the past two seasons after coming over from the middle school ranks. Hall coached at Dayton for over 30 years, primarily for the middle school programs and coached the varsity team the past two seasons to a 18-25 record.

Wood has already added a member to the coaching staff, tabbing Reba Sanders as the head assistant. Sanders is a Dayton alum and coached in the middle school programs.

In Wood’s three seasons at Aiken, he turned things around. He guided the program to a 41-26 overall record, including back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in the CMAC Era.

“I’m a winner and that’s what will be expected from day one,” Wood said. “We’re going to be disciplined, play hard and be tough to match up with. We have some young talent and even more rising stars coming up and I can’t wait to help them reach their potential. It’s a tough district to compete in, but we’re going to figure it out and bring success to Dayton.”

The Lady Greendevils are set to graduate four seniors, but return their top two leading scorers in Lanaya Torres and Nevaeh Scott.
