Bishop Brossart wanted to make a statement…and finished it with an exclamation point.

Fueled by a fast tempo and full-court pressure, the Lady ’Stangs rolled past Scott 86-64 in Taylor Mill in a 37th District seeding game.

The message was simple.

“That we’re going to be a tough team to knock out,” Bishop Brossart head coach Aaron Stamm said. “It was a good win for us in between the All “A,” and we’ll take it and try to keep building.”

The win came despite a big night from Scott sophomore Noelle Price, who poured in 36 points. Price, who holds a Division I offer from Bellarmine, carried the offensive load for the Lady Eagles.

Scott has been without two of its top four scorers in Sydney Richmond (12.7 ppg) and Emma Karl (3.6), opening the door for Price to shoulder an even larger role. Another underclassman, Molly Porada, also stepped up with 15 points.

“It was nice to have Sydney complementing Noelle,” Scott head coach Eric Pouncy said. “We were trying to get Molly there, and now she’s stepped up. The big thing is keeping everyone aggressive. We teach them about having the green light.”

While Scott is no stranger to facing elite teams or full-court pressure, that wasn’t the only challenge presented by the No. 16-ranked team in the state. Brossart found a clear advantage in the paint, led by junior Hadley Eviston, who scored a career-high 29 points, 20 of them in the first half.

“We had a big advantage in the post,” Eviston said. “It was about taking advantage of that. Rachel (Shewmaker) and I were able to use our strength down there, and it’s a good look for us.”

Greylee Kramer added 22 points and Kylie Smith contributed 16 for the Lady ’Stangs, who turned an early surge into a dominant night. Brossart jumped out to an 8-1 lead, went up 27-13 after one quarter, 44-24 at halftime and 68-41 after three. The lead ballooned to as many as 33 points in the fourth quarter.

Brossart finished district play at 1-1, earning the No. 2 seed in the district tournament, while Scott enters as the No. 3 seed at 0-2. The two teams will meet again in the tournament semifinals, with Campbell County claiming the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye.

Up next for Brossart (21-1) is a return to the Kentucky All “A” State Tournament, which resumes after the winter storm from last weekend. The Lady ’Stangs will face Owensboro Catholic on Sunday in the semifinals in Owensboro.

Scott (7-13) stays home to host NewCath on Monday.
