Boone County grad and former Miss Kentucky Basketball Sydney Moss is making the jump to the Division I coaching ranks.

After three seasons with Wilmington College in Ohio, one as an assistant and two as head coach, Moss recently accepted an assistant coaching position with Stetson University in DeLand, Florida.

“I’m extremely excited to join Coach Bria and the WBB program. Coach Bria has had tremendous success at Stetson and I’m looking forward to working with her,” said Moss in a press release by Stetson. “The team has had consistent success in the ASUN, which speaks to the winning culture at Stetson. I’m ready to get to work and bring a conference championship back to DeLand.”

Moss, the 2012 Miss Kentucky Basketball winner, has made the jump to the Division I level after stints in Division II, III and NAIA. After graduating from Thomas More in 2016, Moss got her coaching career started at St. Thomas University in Florida and the University of Charleston in West Virginia as an assistant.

She then latched on with her alma mater at Thomas More University as the lead assistant and recruiting coordinator. Under Jeff Hans she helped steer the Saints to back-to-back NAIA national championship game appearances, including a 2022 title and a combined 63-6 record over two seasons.

After Thomas More, Moss headed north to Wilmington.

In her playing days, Moss racked up the honors including Miss Basketball. She won numerous Player of the Year honors before playing her freshman year at the University of Florida. After her freshman season, she transferred to Thomas More where she was a three-time first-team All-American and had her jersey retired in 2019. At TMU, Moss set the NCAA single-game scoring record (63 points) and tied the single-season mark (891) and led the Saints to consecutive national championships, but one was later vacated. She was named National Player of the Year three years in a row by the WBCA, D3hoops.com, and DIII News, while averaging over 22 points, seven rebounds, and three assists per game.

A national champion as both a player and a coach, Moss brings a decorated background to DeLand with coaching experience across NCAA Divisions II and III, as well as the NAIA.

She is the daughter of NFL Hall of Fame player Randy Moss.
