For the first time since 2008, the head coaching chair for the Bellevue girls basketball program will be occupied by someone other than Tommy Sorrell.
With Sorrell stepping down at the end of the season after 17 seasons at the helm, the school was tasked with finding his replacement for the future. On Friday, they named Trevor Gould as the next coach of the program.
“I am honored to follow Coach Sorrell as the girls’ varsity coach,” Gould said in a press release. “Excited to carry on the traditions that has been instilled within the girls program here at Bellevue.”
Gould comes over from St. Henry, where he was an assistant on the boys team under all-time 9th Region wins leader Dave Faust. Prior to that, he was the head coach at Villa Madonna from 2020-24, leading the Vikings to 14 wins during the 2023-24 season, their most since the 2017-18 season.
“He has a proven track record of emphasizing a culture of hard work, accountability and basketball IQ,” Bellevue Independent Schools said in a press release. “Coach Gould inspires athletes to maximize their potential both on and off the court.”
Gould works as a paraprofessional and is a New Richmond, Ohio grad and then went on to play basketball at Southern State Community College before getting into coaching.
He’ll inherit a team with a lot of turnover as seven of the 12 players on the roster were seniors. The decorated senior class over the last four seasons won 74 games, made the 9th Region tourney in the 2023-24 season for the first time since 2010 and won 22 games, the most in program history.
“Thrilled to continue to build off the solid foundation laid by the prior coaching staff and to add my fingerprints going forward,” Gould said in the release. “I look forward to getting to know the players and their families soon. I am currently working on building a staff and eager to get started.”
