Starting to sound like a broken record…once again another week shows how much parity there is this year in Northern Kentucky.
Day in and day out, if you don’t come ready to play, anyone can beat you on any given night, boys or girls.
With just two weeks remaining, here’s a look at the latest LINK nky Top 10 rankings.
Boys
- Cooper (15-5, Previous Ranking: 1) — A slip-up on Saturday to Walton-Verona ended the Jaguars 10-game winning streak. But they were still able to clinch the top seed in the 33rd District with a win at Conner and won at Campbell County. Just three regular season games left for the Jaguars before postseason play begins.
2. Covington Catholic (18-6, Previous Ranking: 2) — A 3-0 week against 9th Region opponents Holy Cross, Ryle and Newport has the Colonels back on track after a stretch in which they went 1-4.
3. Lloyd Memorial (17-6, Previous Ranking: 4) — The Juggernauts have won six straight, allowing 46 points per game in that span.
4. Simon Kenton (17-6, Previous Ranking: 9) — The Pioneers have won 15 of 17, including handing Mason County one of their worst losses in program history last week.
5. Newport (14-9, Previous Ranking: 5) — Shooting 62% from the free throw line and 30% from the 3-point line will have to improve if the Wildcats are to win a third straight region title. Good news for them is they look to have everyone healthy here for the final stretch of the season, something they haven’t been able to say all season.
6. Highlands (16-7, Previous Ranking: NR) — Without a senior on the roster, the Bluebirds are exceeding expectations this year. With wins over Campbell County and Conner over the past week, it also legitimizes this ranking.
7. Conner (15-7, Previous Ranking: 3) — A rough 0-3 week for the Cougars in which they were a little short-handed due to illness.
8. Campbell County (17-8, Previous Ranking: 6) — The Camels snapped a 3-game losing streak with a win over Beechwood. Playing all these 9th Region teams will have them prepared for what’s a really down 10th Region this year.
9. Ryle (12-10, Previous Ranking: 7) — The Raiders are 6-1 over their last seven, the lone loss to Covington Catholic and a win over Simon Kenton during that stretch.
10. Dixie Heights (16-5, Previous Ranking: 10) — The Colonels have Newport, Holy Cross and Covington Catholic on the docket this week. Let’s see what they’re made of.
Next up: Walton-Verona, Holy Cross, Beechwood, Newport Central Catholic
Girls

- Cooper (17-4, Previous Ranking: 1) — To beat a top 15 team in the state without one of their starters out with illness is a pretty darn good win for Cooper, taking down Danville Christian in a rematch from last year’s state tournament. Big matchup Thursday with Dixie Heights coming.
2. Simon Kenton (18-4 Previous Ranking: 2) — They haven’t allowed more than 48 points in a game over their last 16 games.
3. Notre Dame (18-4, Previous Ranking: 5) — Pandas are 10-1 over their last 11 with the lone loss to Cooper. They’re also the first team in the 9th Region tournament with the No. 1 seed in the 35th District, which earns an automatic bye into the district championship game.
4. Dixie Heights (15-7, Previous Ranking: 3) — Their tour of Ohio wasn’t too friendly last week with losses to Mount Notre Dame and Ursula Academy. Couple good tests this week with Campbell County and Cooper.
5. Holy Cross (22-4, Previous Ranking: 4) — After an 18-1 start, Holy Cross is 4-3 over their last seven. They’ve got quite the schedule to end the season: Frederick Douglass, Sacred Heart, Simon Kenton and Scott. Three of those four are top 15 teams in the state.
6. Campbell County (15-8, Previous Ranking: 6) — Props to Campbell County and those involved for hosting such a high-level event with the Camel Classic on Saturday. Lot of really good teams and players involved.
7. Highlands (16-7, Previous Ranking: 7) — Put up quite the fight against the four-time reigning champ Sacred Heart at the Camel Classic, trailing by just three with under six minutes to play.
8. Bishop Brossart (19-6, Previous Ranking: 8) — A big one with Scott on Wednesday. The winner gets to wear home jerseys for the district tournament when they’ll play again in two weeks.
9. Walton-Verona (16-8, Previous Ranking: 10) — A 3-0 week including an impressive 21-point win over Ryle.
10. Newport Central Catholic (14-12, Previous Ranking: NR) — A win over Scott gets NewCath back into the top 10.
Next up: Scott, Ryle
