The Rebels hit the road and broke a three-game losing streak with the 9th Regin win.
Boone County’s two leading scorers combined for 36 points. Joslyn Humphrey led Boone County with a double-double, scoring 23 points and pulling down 13 rebounds while Lyric Hooper scored 13 to go with seven rebounds, three assists and five steals.
“In order to play hard all the time, all five of us on the court have to be working together at once,” Hooper said. “One person can’t just slack off and expect the other four to be there to make up for their mistakes. So if we’re all playing hard at one time, we can get looks (at the basket) and things like that.”
Boone County led just 18-12 after one quarter, but increased it to 32-18 at halftime.
“We started getting up and trying to pressure them,” Boone County head coach Todd Humphrey said. “We tried to get our pressure defense going early in the game, but we were a little lackadaisical to start off. They hit some threes and ended up jumping out on us 9-3. We found a rhythm with one of the defenses that we were running.”
Newport saw its two-game winning streak snapped. The Wildcats had nine different players score, but none had more than six.
The Rebels (3-4) host Bellevue on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Newport (2-5) hosts Villa Madonna on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
