Nominations are reader-submitted or recommended by our sports team. Our Team of the Week program honors all local sports at all levels, whether it’s youth or adult-oriented recreation, high school or college, professional or amateur.
The new school year has added to the awards program. OrthoCincy Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine and LINK nky are excited to expand in addition to the weekly winners, the program will be including three winners for Team of the Season and one overall winner for Team of the Year for the 2024-25 sports seasons.
New this year for the program is the addition of the Team of the Season (TOTS) and Team of the Year (TOTY) awards. Sports seasons are considered fall, winter and spring for the purpose of this awards program. At the conclusion of each sports season, an overall TOTS winner will be chosen from all previous TOTW winners for that season. Their school will also receive a $500 scholarship to be presented to the athlete of their choice at the end of the school year.
Finally, the program culminates by selecting one TOTY from the three TOTS award winners. Online and print articles will again be published, a large commemorative plaque will be presented and the school will receive an additional $500 scholarship to be presented to the athlete of their choice at the end of the school year.
The call for nominations, voting and winning announcement for each will follow the same format as the TOTW.

LLOYD MEMORIAL BASEBALL

The Juggernauts went 3-1 last week with victories over Villa Madonna (4-2), Boone County (3-1) and Carroll County (6-1), improving to 11-8 on the season.
They got solid pitching performances from Colton Barger, Conner Drake and Ethan Swett while Grayson Begnoche and Brayden Brown were lockdown in relief.
Barger pitched five innings in the win over Villa, allowing eight hits, an earned run, walk and struck out three. Begnoche came in the final two innings and shut the door with three strikeouts and one hit allowed. Begnoche added three hits at the plate, two doubles and Hayden Hungler added three RBI.
Drake pitched a complete game in the win over Boone, allowing eight hits, an earned run and a walk while striking out six. Begnoche, Jamikah Jasper and Hungler had the RBI in the victory. Begnoche and Barger with two hits apiece.
Swett pitched five innings of one-hit baseball in the win over Carroll, allowing a run, four walks and struck out nine. Brown pitched two scoreless innings in relief, walking two and striking out three. Jasper had two hits, Swett helping his own cause with three RBI and hitting a home run.
RYLE BASEBALL

How about a 6-0 week for the Raiders. They did it nearly everywhere, too. They won at Highlands, two home games against Walton-Verona and Newport Central Catholic, at Great American Ballpark against Fairmont (Ohio) and two wins in Lexington over Frederick Douglass and Woodford County.
The 6-0 week bumped their record to 23-8 as they gear up for the postseason a week away.
SCOTT BASEBALL

The Eagles posted a 3-1 week as they improved to 14-10 on the year with wins over Calvary Christian (5-0), Harrison County (10-5 in 10 innings) and East Carter (6-0).
The win over Calvary locked them in as the No. 2 seed for the 37th District tournament, freshman phenom Ty Cook tossed a no-hitter, walking one and striking out 12. Carson Bleha had two hits and a RBI.
The victory over Harrison County was the Thorobreds first loss in region play. The game went 10 innings, Brady Smith leading the way with four hits and two RBI. Trey Cook added two hits and two RBI, Ty Cook also adding two RBI.
Brock Ronnebaum pitched a complete-game shutout in the win over East Carter, allowing one hit while walking six and striking out seven. Jonas Foltz had two hits and an RBI, Trey Cook with two RBI.
BELLEVUE SOFTBALL

It was a busy week for the Tigers softball team last week and they went 5-1 during it.
They defeated Dayton (13-8), Newport (19-1), Calvary Christian (11-3), Holmes (20-9) and Robertson County (20-9).
The 5-1 week improved their record to 11-14 on the season.
NEWPORT SOFTBALL

They may not have had a week like the others, but the Newport softball team got their first win of the season in a 15-5 victory over Calvary Christian on May 9.
They were 0-15 prior to that and broke a 16-game losing streak. Kailey Fisk led the way at the plate with two hits, both of them doubles and two RBI. Rylinn Herndon, Rayna Goad, Shayla Egbert, Kemyiah Lewis and Vivian Stevens also recorded RBI. Egbert pitched five innings in the circle for the victory, allowing eight hits and three earned runs while walking three and striking out six.
VILLA MADONNA TRACK AND FIELD

The Vikings girls track and field team won the NKAC Division III meet for the ninth straight year, the Vikings boys team winning the NKAC meet for the eighth straight year.
