LLOYD MEMORIAL GIRLS BASKETBALL

After an 0-3 start, Lloyd Memorial’s girls basketball rebounded last week with a 2-0 week in wins over Walton-Verona (39-34) and Harrison County (65-50).

The team has been led by Sierra McCoin with 19.8 points per game and she’s knocked down 18 three-pointers in the first five contests. Keirstyn Young averages 10 points per game and the Juggernauts got a boost from Mya Holden, playing her first game against Harrison County and scoring 14 points. Railynn Brown leads the team with 7.6 rebounds per game, Kenya Williams with 6.2.

The Juggernauts will look to make it three in a row when they host Scott on Tuesday and then close out their week at Grant County on Friday.

LUDLOW BOYS BASKETBALL

The Panthers earned wins over Heritage Academy (72-67) and Calvary Christian (65-53) last week as they’re off to a 4-1 start to the season.

Senior forward Elijah Perrin has been a big reason why. Perrin is averaging a double-double with 22.6 points and 13.6 rebounds per game. Ethan Powell (18.8 points per game) and Spencer Brandenburg (16.6) have formed a nice trio for the Panthers. Powell brings down 7.2 rebounds per game, Brandenburg with 4.6.

Ludlow improved to 4-1 with a win over Bellevue on Monday and close out their week with Villa Madonna on Thursday and Newport Central Catholic on Saturday.

BISHOP BROSSART GIRLS BASKETBALL

After losing six of their top eight contributors from a season ago, Bishop Brossart’s girls basketball team is off to a 6-0 start to the season that included three wins last week over Pendleton County (59-36), Bellevue (73-39) and Beechwood (63-17).

Not only have they been winning, but their average margin of victory in the six wins is 27.5 points per game.

Early season standouts include Rachel Shewmaker, Greylee Kramer and Zoee Meyers. All three are averaging double figures in scoring, Shewmaker an astounding 67% shooting from the field, knocking down 29-of-43 shots so far. Meyers and Kramer lead the team in rebounding with 4.2 rebounds per game, Meyers the main deep threat with 10 three-pointers made on 23 attempts. Kremer has made teams pay at the free throw line by hitting 16-of-18 attempts.

The wide margin of victory has allowed 10 different Mustangs to score this season.

They enter a pivotal 37th District seed game with Campbell County on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Campbell County Middle School.

RYLE ARCHERY

The Ryle archery team won the Cooper Shoot Out on Dec. 9 at Cooper High School, defeating 10 other teams that participated.

The Raiders finished with a team score of 3,351, 68 points ahead of second place Conner.

Peyton Scott and Jacob Klette led the Raiders by scoring 285, Scott with 18 tens, Klette with 17. Following the pair was Timmy DePue with a 283 and Amanda Buckley with a 282. All four placed in the top 10 overall, Scott fourth overall and the top girls finisher, Klette fifth overall and fourth in the boys division, DePue sixth and Buckley ninth overall and second in the girls division.

Christian Wallace (280), Jonah Rettig (279), Kanishk Devarakonda (279), Thomas Evans (276)and Gwen Harmon (276) all posted solid scores as well.
