The Northern Kentucky University baseball team is halfway to making history. The Norse haven’t finished above .500 since making the jump to Division I in 2013 and have never made an NCAA tournament since being eligible in 2016.
Halfway through Horizon League conference play, they sit at the top of the standings.
The Norse are 11-4 in league play, a game clear of Wright State and sport a 22-13 record on the year. They’ve won four in a row and nine of their last 10 to get to this point.
They continue conference play on Friday at Milwaukee in a three-game set. It’s the first of five series left in league play, the big series coming May 5-7 when they play at Wright State. They have 19 games left in the regular season before the conference tournament that runs May 24-27.
They have six everyday players hitting over .300, led by Colton Kucera hitting .377 on the year. Noah Fisher leads the team in home runs and RBI with 10 and 45, respectively, and is batting .349. Treyvin Moss leads with 21 stolen bases in 22 attempts.
Clay Brock leads the NKU starters with a 3.21 ERA in 11 appearances and five starts, Kaden Echeman and Ben Gerl also sporting sub-four ERAs, Echeman at a 3.60 ERA in nine starts, Gerl at a 3.62 ERA in nine starts. Casey Maniglia has four saves in relief, striking out 21 batters in 13.1 innings pitched. Echeman leads the team and the Horizon League with 54 strikeouts and is coming off Horizon League Pitcher of the Week honors.
