The LINK nky Team of the Week for February 27 through March 5 presented by Ortho Cincy is the Simon Kenton High School girls basketball team.

Earning Simon Kenton Team of the Week honors was their performance at the Eighth Region tournament and punching their ticket to the Sweet 16.

Simon Kenton caught the Eighth Region by surprise, winning the region tournament and returning to Rupp Arena for the first time since 2018.

The Pioneers defeated Owen County (50-46) in the quarterfinals, South Oldham (59-46) in the semifinals and Grant County (66-55) in the championship, avenging two losses to the Braves over the course of the season.

First year coach Brenden Stowers took over for his dad Jeff this season and while they had their ups and downs with a young roster and a 16-14 record, but put it all together at Gallatin County for the Eighth Region tournament.

Haylie Webb won the Eighth Region tournament MVP while Brynli Pernell, Anna Kelch and Megan Gadzala made the All-Tournament team. Simon Kenton will face Second Region champ Henderson County in the first round of the state tournament on Thursday.

The Pioneers season concluded on Thursday, a heartbreaking double overtime loss to Henderson County in the first round of the KHSAA Sweet 16. They finished 19-15.
