ALS United Ohio officially kicked off their expanded services in Northern Kentucky by hosting its first annual Northern Kentucky WalkALS at Pioneer Park in Covington on Sunday, Oct. 4. In addition to the $311,427 raised by the Cincinnati WalkALS, this Northern Kentucky walk raised an additional $95,054. Fundraising will be open through the end of the year.
These additional funds raised will help build on ALS United Ohio’s existing presence in the region extending vital, life-changing resources to families and individuals impacted by ALS across the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky region. These services include comprehensive support, advocacy, medical equipment, professional case management, financial grants, small group support, education and funding for advancing research to help end ALS.
“Expanding our services into Northern Kentucky allows us to bridge critical gaps in care for local families in the region,” said Marlin K. Seymour, ALS United Ohio President & CEO. “Launching our inaugural Northern Kentucky WalkALS is a proud moment for our organization. By establishing a stronger local presence, we can deliver the equipment, guidance, and comprehensive care families truly deserve.”
The inaugural event brought the local community together to raise critical awareness and funds for individuals living with ALS and their families. Participants gathered at Pioneer Park for a day of community and celebration featuring an accessible walk route, food and beverage trucks, character and mascot appearances, face painting, balloon twisting, sponsor tents, and live music from Bronson Arroyo.
The new annual walk expands upon ALS United Ohio’s signature events, joining its established walk in Cincinnati to ensure local families receive essential ongoing care and support. The Northern Kentucky WalkALS was made possible through the support of Presenting Sponsor Smoke Justis and Platinum Sponsor Maxim Healthcare.
“Watching close friends fight ALS shows you firsthand the importance of compassionate support and community strength,” said Richard Dickmann, owner of Smoke Justis. “We sponsored this event because I have watched close friends battle this disease and know that no family should have to navigate an ALS diagnosis without a strong network behind them. I am deeply grateful to everyone who attended and contributed. Together, we didn’t just raise essential funds for critical patient resources, we showed our local ALS community that we stand with them every step of the way.”
