The NKY Chamber’s Northern Kentucky Young Professionals (NKYP) will host Northern Kentucky University (NKU) President Dr. Cady Short-Thompson as the featured speaker for its upcoming Lunchtime Leader Chat from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, at the NKU Student Union (20 Kenton Dr., Highland Heights, KY 41076).
The Lunchtime Leader Chat series provides an exclusive opportunity for professionals to connect with regional community and business leaders as they share professional development tips, lessons learned, industry insights, and personal mantras.
“Nearly three years into her tenure at NKU, Dr. Short-Thompson has made a tremendous impact on our region, especially when it comes to preparing the next generation of young professionals for successful lives and careers post-college,” said Kyle Frizzell, NKY Chamber Director of Events and NKYP. “We look forward to hearing her story and career insights and advice that are applicable not only to young professionals, but everyone, no matter where they are in their career journeys.”
Dr. Short-Thompson began her career in academia at NKU, where she spent 14 years rising through the ranks as a professor of communication, graduate program director, and department chair. In 2007, she was the recipient of the Frank Sinton Milburn Outstanding Professor Award for her excellence in teaching, research and service. She then spent seven years at the University of Cincinnati, where she served as the dean of the University of Cincinnati, Blue Ash College, before heading to Hope College in Michigan to serve nearly four years as provost. Dr. Short-Thompson then spent two years as the CEO and executive director of the nonprofit Breakthrough Cincinnati before being named president of NKU in October 2023.
Dr. Short-Thompson serves on numerous regional boards of directors, including for the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, BE NKY Growth Partnership, Holocaust and Humanity Center, Horizon League, Life Learning Center, OneNKY Alliance, United Way of Greater Cincinnati, and more.
The NKYP Lunchtime Leader Chat will include networking opportunities for attendees, and lunch will be provided. Registration is $30 for NKYP members, $35 for NKY Chamber members and $45 for non-members and walk-ins. NKYP Event Pass holders are admitted for free.
