As medical insurance coverage for essential mobility and safety gear continues to tighten, Bluegrass Outreach Initiative is stepping up to ensure no Northern Kentucky resident is left without the tools they need for independence. The local non-profit is proud to announce its expanding operations, including donating to patients at St. Elizabeth Hospitals.
Founded with a mission to strengthen the community through accessibility, Bluegrass Outreach Initiative provides a wide range of durable medical equipment (DME) at no cost to recipients. Their inventory includes wheelchairs, walkers, transport chairs, shower chairs, bedside commodes, canes, and other essential mobility aids.
“As insurance coverage for medical equipment becomes more restrictive, many of our neighbors are left facing steep costs for the basic tools of daily life,” says Eric Lytle, President of Bluegrass Outreach Initiative. “Our goal is to remove those barriers. Whether that be at home or during their transition from hospital to home, our goal is to step in and help.”
Currently, the organization is focused on deepening its roots in the community by:
Expanding Partnerships: Working with hospital systems and local clinics to streamline equipment delivery to patients.
Community Engagement: Hosting and participating in local events, including the Union Health Fair on Saturday, May 16, 2026, where community members can learn about services and donation opportunities.
Logistical Growth: Establishing new community partnerships to offer dedicated donation drop-off and equipment pick-up sites across the region.
The Bluegrass Outreach Initiative invites community members, local businesses, and health organizations to join their cause. The organization is currently accepting both new and gently used medical equipment. They are also accepting monetary donations to fund their mission and assist in distribution of these life-changing tools.
