Randall “Randy” Kuntsman, a 65-year-old Independence resident and tow truck operator, was killed Saturday morning on eastbound I-275 in Taylor Mill as he was attempting to load a vehicle from an earlier unrelated accident onto his truck, according to a Saturday statement from Kenton County Police.
The Taylor Mill Police Department requested help from Kenton County Police Department’s Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team around 9:15 a.m. on Saturday for what was initially believed to be a collision of a pedestrian. After some examination, the Kenton County Police determined Kuntsman’s death was, in fact, due to an accident that occurred while loading his truck.
“Kuntsman… was loading a vehicle from an earlier collision when the tow truck began to roll downhill, ultimately resulting in his death,” according to Kenton County Police. “No suspicious circumstances or other vehicles are suspected to be involved.”
Kenton County’s Bureau of Investigations is handling the investigation. Anyone who witnessed the incident should email Kenton County Detective Sergeant Andrew Kenner at investigations@kentoncounty.org to share information.
