HOCKENBURY ANNOUNCES
CAMPAIGN FOR HIGHLAND HEIGHTS CITY COUNCIL
(Highland Heights, KY) – Jesse Hockenbury of Highland Heights announced today that he will be running for Highland Heights City Council. Mr. Hockenbury is an esteemed attorney, businessperson, and technologist.
“I am proud and excited to announce my candidacy for city council and believe I can bring the forward-thinking strategic leadership the city needs,” said Hockenbury. “Fiscal management, economic development, and public safety are essential in developing an environment for growth and prosperity for the city and its’ residents.”
Hockenbury believes Highland Heights is at a pivotal point in its’ growth as a member of the larger northern Kentucky community stating, “Now is the time to move beyond drafting another strategic plan for the next 20 years as has been done many times, and to take tangible steps towards action. As a former project manager, I recognize the need to overcome option paralysis and how to move projects forward. This is especially true when our neighboring cities are taking the necessary steps to contribute to the commerce corridor, and without action we risk falling behind.”
Hockenbury believes one of the largest opportunities for development over the next 5 years is the mixed-use development at the entrance of Northern Kentucky University to be located at the corner of Alexandria Pike and Louie B. Nunn Dr. Hockenbury says “The mixed-use development at the entrance of NKU, and our city, has potential to bring tremendous growth, business opportunities, additional housing, and tax revenue. This project was going to begin, but then everything fell apart and now years later we still have a giant area at the front of our city that is not being capitalized upon. We are at a great moment to re-energize this project as NKU has undergone significant leadership changes from the president down, and that new leadership has expressed openness to re-engaging in the conversation.”
Hockenbury further emphasized that for such a project to move forward efficiently, city council needs a member who has a long track record with the university and who understands the bureaucracy of the institution. Mr. Hockenbury received his undergraduate degree in computer information technology, master’s degrees in management information systems (business informatics), a master’s in business administration, and a juris doctor from NKU. In addition to his education at NKU, for more than 10 years Hockenbury has served in a number of roles with the university including as a staff member, faculty member in the department of computer science, and associate director.
In addition to economic development, Hockenbury’s major priorities focus on the areas of public safety and fiscal responsibility. Hockenbury states “Regardless of how many great stores or restaurants we have, we need a city where visitors and residents alike feel safe to visit and live, that begins with public safety and supporting our first responders. From there we need to ensure we maintain a modern and safe infrastructure comprising sidewalks, lighting, traffic signals, crosswalks, and more to ensure the city is highly accessible by car, bike, and walking regardless of the time of day.”
Mr. Hockenbury will be seeking votes across Highland Heights this fall for his election to City Council. More information can be found at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61556710431345
