Gov. Andy Beshear held a press conference on Feb. 21 to update the Commonwealth on COVID-19 in Kentucky. Today, there are the fewest cases since December at 969.

“The top line on COVID is, cases continue to fall at a good rate,” Beshear said. “Our positivity rate continues to fall. Hospitalizations, ICU numbers, and ventilator usage are all declining. Deaths are still staying fairly high, but we hope deaths will follow the rest of the trends shortly. We are now below the delta variant’s peak. We are heading in the right direction and at a good pace.”

This is the fourth straight week of declining cases and the lowest number of cases in two months. Last week there were 25,173 cases, and the positivity fell to 12.74. It was 13.1 percent last week.

However, despite the large decrease, there are still a significant number of cases hospitalized at 1,333. There are also 270 ICU cases and 141 on ventilators. But, overall, it’s a positive week, and the governor believes the state could be looking good as we head into the spring.

“It looks like we will be able to have a good spring and summer, and we certainly hope it holds longer than that,” Beshear said. “But, try to be patient for the next couple to where you don’t end up catching COVID.”
