The coaches across the state have made their selections for the first Kentucky High School Girls Soccer Association coaches poll.
The poll is typically released bi-weekly throughout the season.
Five Northern Kentucky teams show up in the initial poll. Notre Dame (5-1) is third. The Pandas own victories over No. 2 team Sacred Heart, No. 4 South Oldham and No. 17 Ryle. They face No. 1 Central Hardin on Saturday in Elizabethtown. Their lone loss is to Carmel out of Indiana.
Bishop Brossart is No. 7 as they currently sit at 2-1-1. They’ve defeated No. 6 Paul Laurence Dunbar and have a loss to No. 15 Highlands and a tie with No. 10 Lexington Catholic. They take on No. 21 Simon Kenton on Wednesday at the MAC.
Highlands is next up at No. 15 and 1-3 on the year. After a season opening win over Brossart, they’ve dropped three straight. The first of the three losses came to Anderson (Ohio) and then Ryle and Sacred Heart. They’ll look to get back on the winning side on Thursday at Summit Country Day.
Ryle is No. 17 and one of the surprises of the early season after finishing 9-11-1 last year. They’ve knocked off Highlands with tight, one-goal losses to both Notre Dame and Sacred Heart. They open district play on Wednesday with Conner at home.
Simon Kenton is the last of the ranked NKY teams at No. 21. They currently sit at 1-1-1 with a win over Scott, a loss to South Oldham and a tie with No. 19 North Oldham in a game that was suspended due to weather. They’ll get another ranked opponent on Wednesday at Bishop Brossart.
