One person is dead and another is booked in Campbell County Jail on murder charges after a shooting at the Brass Bull on Monmouth Street early Saturday.

Newport police responded to a call at Brass Bull for a fight inside the bar, which led to one person being shot and dying from their wounds.

“Officers were on patrol in the area and immediately approached an individual leaving the bar,” Newport Police said in a statement, elaborating that Newport Detectives and the Campbell County Special Investigations Response Team responded and conducted an investigation and were able to immediately make an arrest.

The suspect is Robert McKay, 30, of Florence, Ky. and he was booked in Campbell County Detention Center early Saturday on murder charges, according to Newport Police Detective Kevin Drohan. His bond is set at $1,000,000, and he will be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 5.

A community member told LINK nky that the victim was a bartender at the bar. The victim’s identity has not been confirmed, and police are not releasing any more information at this time.
