The City of Covington is now accepting applications for its homeowner repair program, which provides funding to make home repairs to owners of single family homes in the city who qualify. Grants of up to $10,000 are available.

“Funding is intended to assist residents facing emergency repair needs that could jeopardize the health or safety of household members if left unaddressed,” according to a city announcement.

Eligible repairs include the following, according to the city:

  • Actively leaking roofs
  • Fallen or damaged gutters and downspouts
  • HVAC systems and furnaces
  • Water and sewer line repairs
  • Water heaters
  • Hazardous or inoperable electrical outlets and fuse systems
  • Modifications to aid in building accessibility
  • Lead-based paint hazards identified by the Northern Kentucky Health Department, which you can read about here.

Funds will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. In order to qualify, applicants must own a single-family home in the city and have a household income of 60% or less than the area median income: a maximum of $46,200 for a single-person household or a maximum of $65,940 for a four-person household.

Applicants must provide income documentation for all members of the household and cannot have received funding from the home repair program in the last five years. Veterans, seniors, people with disabilities and households with incomes at or below 50% of the area median income will be given priority.

Apply online using the city’s web portal. You will need to make an account by clicking on the “Sign up now” link at the top of the page if you have never used the portal before.
