Kenton County approves Prus Construction contract for park

Kenton County officials have approved Prus Construction to lead the New County Park project, with Judge Executive Kris Knochelmann expressing confidence it will be a source of pride for generations. The company was selected unanimously by the fiscal court, with leaders citing its strong track record on major public projects in the region, including work in both Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Construction is expected to begin in October and take 18 to 24 months, with planned features such as a climbing tower, boardwalk and ninja-style course. County leaders say they are enthusiastic about the project’s potential impact.

Boone County proposes 2026-2027 budget with public safety boost

Boone County’s proposed 2026–2027 budget emphasizes increased investment in public safety while maintaining financial stability without raising taxes or fees. Presented by County Administrator Matthew Webster, the plan projects about $83 million in general fund revenue—driven largely by payroll taxes due to job growth—and $65.8 million in expenditures, with personnel costs remaining the largest expense. Public safety funding will see the biggest jump, rising over 10% to $29.2 million, while contributions to regional transit (TANK) will also increase modestly to keep up with inflation. The county plans to maintain current staffing levels, slightly reduce reserve funds after allocating prior federal aid to infrastructure projects and move forward with public review and adoption of the budget by early June.

Covington’s inaugural mayor’s academy class graduates

The inaugural class of the Covington Mayor’s Academy has graduated, marking the completion of an eight-month civics program designed to give residents and local workers an inside look at city government operations. About 20 participants finished the program, which covered topics like public safety, city administration, and public works through sessions led by department leaders. City officials, including Mayor Ron Washington and Vice Mayor Shannon Smith, emphasized the importance of continued civic engagement, with the program aiming to encourage residents to stay involved in boards and community initiatives. Graduates said the experience deepened their understanding of and appreciation for city efforts, with some already pursuing roles in local government, as the city begins recruiting for the next class.
