“It’s going to be something, I think, that we’ll all be proud of for the next one hundred years,” Judge Executive Kris Knochelmann predicted at Tuesday night’s Kenton County Fiscal Court meeting.

Knochelmann was referring to the New County Park project, which is now being handled by Prus Construction following a unanimous vote by the four fiscal court members.

Scott Gunning, the assistant county administrator, highlighted the construction company’s “successful completion of large, high-profile projects for other public entities,” and “ability to self-perform a substantial portion of the work,” in a memo released earlier this week. In fact, Prus has a long history on both sides of the Ohio River. The company’s major projects include restoration work on Union Terminal and Smale Riverfront Park in Cincinnati, as well as Covington Plaza and Tower Park in Northern Kentucky.

The project is expected to start in October, and should take 18 to 24 months to complete. Features of the new park could potentially include a climbing tower and bouldering location, a boardwalk system and a ninja skills course. “We’re super excited,” Commissioner Beth Sewell concluded; sharing the positive outlook the commissioners and judge executive share.
