The Ohio River will be temporarily closed on Sunday for the annual Great Ohio River Swim.

Boone County Water Rescue is notifying people that the Ohio River will be closed to all vessel traffic, both recreational and commercial, between the Bellevue/Dayton area and the Brent Spence Bridge from 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. All vessels will be prohibited from transiting the area for the duration of the event.

During the event, swimmers will begin at the Serpentine Wall in Cincinnati, swim across the Ohio River to the Kentucky shoreline near Newport on the Levee, and then return to the Public Landing. Some participants will start near St. Rose Church and proceed downstream along the Ohio shore.

Event organizers anticipate up to 250 people will participate in the swim. First responders from Kentucky and Ohio will be on the water to assist swimmers and enforce the closure.
