Fort Wright plans to raise the waste collection and recycling services meeting in accordance with Rumpke’s bid.

The council discussed the contract at its May 21 caucus meeting. Rumpke was the only company that bid.

“There is not a lot of competition in this market,” city administrator Jill Cain Bailey said. “My recommendation is to accept the bid from Rumpke.”

The city approved a two-year contract in 2023 that established a $216 annual fee for residents to use Rumpke waste collection and recycling services. The new bid is $276 annually ($23 a month over 12 months).

This contract would be in place from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2027. If approved, Fort Wright residents can expect to see the new $276 fee as a line item on their property tax bill this November.

Residents will continue to receive a 65-gallon recycling can at no charge. They will also continue to provide their own trash can or rent one from Rumpke.

City attorney John Brooking will meet with Rumpke’s attorney to draft an agreement that the council can vote on. Once a contract is firm, they vote on an ordinance to establish the new waste fee.

“I hope to get this done at the next council meeting,” Bailey said.
